The Long Draw Fire is now 100% contained at 582,313 acres; the change in reported acreage is due to more accurate mapping. An aerial survey, conducted Sunday morning, did not reveal any remaining smoke or burning material.
Yesterday, crews began to implement an extensive rehabilitation plan over the suppression area. This involves constructing water bars, raking burms, repairing fences, cleaning spike camps, weed washing, and returning transportation routes to a pre-fire conditions wherever possible. These efforts are likely to continue for another week.
All crews and support personnel returned to the Incident Command Post in McDermitt last night and many of them will be demobilized from the incident today. Air resources will also continue to ramp down to meet operational needs.
Approximately 120 fire fighters will remain on scene to assist with rehabilitation activities and provide initial attack support, should the need arise.
A Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT), under the command of Matt White, will shadow PNW Team 3 today, and assume full responsibility of the fire at 6:00 Tuesday morning.
Incident Commander Jeff Pendleton expressed his appreciation to the firefighters, community members, and dozens of support personnel who assisted at the Long Draw Fire. “On behalf of PNW Team3, I would like to thank the larger ‘team’ for the hard work and support that made this suppression effort successful.”
This will be the last update from the Long Draw Fire. All future inquiries should be directed to Mark Wilkening, Vale District BLM Public Affairs Officer, at 541-473-6218.
